Thanksgiving Day!




Você sabe o que significa "Thanksgiving Day"?

"Thanksgiving Day" é traduzido para o português como "Dia de ação de graças". O primeiro dia de ação de Graças foi celebrado em 1620 em Plymouth, Massachusetts, pelos peregrinos fundadores da vila. Depois das colheitas terem sido gravemente prejudicadas pelo inverno rigoroso, os colonos tiveram uma boa colheita de milho no verão seguinte. Para marcar e celebrar a ocasião, depois de sucessivos anos de escassez, o governador da vila resolveu organizar uma festa. Nessa festa participaram cerca de 90 índios e foram servidos patos, perus, peixes e milho. A partir desse ano, todo outono era organizada uma festa de gratidão a Deus pelas boas colheitas. O dia de ação de Graças, celebrado na 4ª quinta-feira de novembro, é feriado nos Estados Unidos e no Canadá; observado como um dia de gratidão, geralmente a Deus, pelos bons acontecimentos ocorridos durante o ano. Neste dia, as pessoas dão as graças com festas e orações.
